Warriors Under 16s produced a superb comeback to defeat Exeter Chiefs 21-14 at Sandy Park last Friday.
Despite going behind twice, Worcester battled back with a try for Tom Furnival and a brace for Oli Lawrence to ensure they travelled back from the South West with the win.
Playing uphill and against the wind in the first period, Warriors thought they had the lead following a sweeping move finished off by winger Alex Bartley, only for it to be chalked off after the officials spotted a foot in touch.
Then, against the run of play, the Chiefs opened the scoring with a converted try following a series of phases.
But Warriors hit back to equalise on the stroke of half-time after some concerted pressure in the Chiefs 22 resulted in prop forward Furnival going over with Will Tanner converting.
The visitors started brightly in the second period but found themselves behind once again after Chiefs bagged their second converted try.
But Worcester showed their mettle by responding to the setback with two late tries.
Centre Lawrence ran a hard line to touch down with Tanner converting to level the scores, and following good link up play between the backs and forwards, George Sandie’s break allowed Lawrence to dive over for his second with replacement Tom Serle converting in the last minute to secure the win.
Warriors Outreach Co-ordinator and Recruitment Analyst Dan Lyne said: “It was great experience for the lads to play on a Premiership ground and it was a fine all-round performance.
“We put together some nice attacking moves and defended well in tough conditions against a strong Exeter side.
“The boys really stood up in terms of work rate and physicality, as well as showing some great handling throughout.”
The Under 16s are back in action at home to Independent Schools Lambs at Droitwich RFC this Thursday 25 February (kick-off 7.30pm).
