Olivier – Bragging rights on the table

Warriors’ February Player of the Month Wynand Olivier knows the importance of Saturday’s clash with Gloucester Rugby at Sixways (kick-off 2pm).

Following wins over Sale Sharks and Newcastle Falcons in recent weeks, the South Africa international wants to give the home support more to shout about this weekend.

He said: “As players we just want to go out and enjoy the game and to ultimately pull off a win to make the fans proud.

“It’s a big thing for the supporters and with Gloucester being our neighbours and with bragging rights on the table, it’s important to try and get that win.”

Warriors almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat down at Kingsholm in the return fixture back in October and Olivier believes his side are more than capable of turning over their rivals from down the M5.

He revealed: “The crowd was pretty good down there and it was a very tough game. We lost by two points and had a couple of unlucky calls.

“The boys showed a lot of character and we let it slip but we’re in a different mind-set now and we’re ready to go out there and do our best.

“We are confident and there is no reason why we can’t go out there and pick up another win.”

The 2007 World Cup winner, who moved to Sixways in September 2015, admits he’s settled in nicely to life at Sixways thanks to the support of his teammates.

He added: “Since the day I stepped in, everyone has helped make me feel at home and looks out for each other.

“We have a great group of guys, there is a great atmosphere and we’re basically a big family.”
