Academy duo sign new contracts

Warriors are delighted to announce that England Under 20 duo Jamie Shillcock and Sam Ripper-Smith have signed new contracts.

Both players are seen to have big futures at the Club and the announcement illustrates Warriors’ continued focus on developing their own talent for the future.

The pair have been regulars for England Under 20s in their current RBS 6 Nations campaign, with Ripper-Smith notching tries against Ireland and Wales in recent weeks.

Former Warwick School pupil Shillcock made headlines last May after he was called-up to Warriors’ Championship play-off squad following a spate of scrum-half injuries, making his first-team debut against London Scottish at the age of just 17.

He was also named amongst the replacements for both legs of the play-off final against Bristol and has gone on to become a regular for Worcester’s Cavaliers and Development sides.

Ripper-Smith, 20, has been a regular for Cavaliers for the last three seasons and has also represented England at Under 18 level.

The young flanker spent the summer of 2015 in New Zealand with Canterbury-based side Saracens RFC, helping the side claim victory in the regional North Canterbury competition.

Warrior Director of Rugby Dean Ryan said: “We continue to place a huge emphasis on developing young players and our success on that front is illustrated by the fact we have the joint-highest representation amongst the England Under 20s.

“Jamie and Sam have both displayed characteristics to give themselves the best chance of succeeding in the first-team in years to come.”

Shillcock said: “My first experience of Sixways was during the play-offs last season which gave me a great foundation in the game.

“This season I have just focused on playing as many games as I can for the Cavaliers and working hard in training so I’m delighted to sign a new contract.”

Ripper-Smith said: “I feel like I have developed hugely as a player during my time at Sixways and that has been the driver for my England Under 20s call-up.

“Sixways is the best place for any young player to learn the game and I’m looking forward to my future at the Club.”
