Warriors raise record amount for Acorns Children’s Hospice

Funds raised in a record-breaking season for Warriors’ Official Charity Partner Acorns will be handed over at a special ceremony at Sixways on Saturday 7 May when Warriors take on Saracens.

A grand total of £25,740.74 has been raised over the season which smashed all previous records, thanks to the Acorns Charity Matchday, Warriors Golf Day and a London Marathon, run by Warriors Head of Partnerships Leyton Williams.

Acorns Director of Income Generation Louise Arnold, who will accept the cheque from Warriors Chief Executive Jim O’Toole during half-time at this Saturday’s game, said: “It’s an honour to accept this fantastic, record-breaking amount and on behalf of everybody at Acorns, a huge thank you goes to Warriors and all the fans for their generosity.”

The season-long fundraising attempt saw supporters and away fans dig deep in support of the charity, which operates a hospice in Bath Road, Worcester, providing care for life-limited and life-threatened children and support for their families.

Louise continued: “This amount underlines what has been a highly successful season for the partnership and we’re looking forward to many more years working with the Club to help raise the money and awareness which is so vital to help the children and families who rely on our care.”

Warriors’ Acorns Player Ambassador Sam Betty said: “It’s been a brilliant fundraising effort by everyone associated with the Club.

“Our supporters have been extremely generous as always and we are delighted that their fundraising efforts will make a difference to Acorns and the people the charity works with.”

In the past year, Acorns for the Three Counties has cared for over 240 children and more than 300 families, including those who are bereaved, across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.

The charity relies on the local community for the bulk of the more than £9 million it needs to raise each year to continue providing its care.
