Pennell – We want to finish with a bang

Full-back Chris Pennell insists Warriors want to finish the season with a bang when they host Saracens at Sixways this Saturday (kick-off 3.30pm).

Dean Ryan’s side take on the reigning Aviva Premiership champions, who are on course for a domestic and European double.

And Pennell insists his Warriors have a point to prove in their last game of the 2015/16 campaign.

He said: “It’s our last home game of the season against the best team in Europe at the minute, so it’s a huge opportunity for us to show them what we’re made of.

“If we can get our big lads putting in the big shots they have been over the last couple of weeks and start contesting breakdowns the way we have been, then we’ll test their bottle and see just how much they want it.

“It’s very important to try and finish on a high. It’s about us stating our intent for next season and showing where we lie in terms of European Rugby against the best team and hopefully we can go out with a bang.”

Saracens have an international-studded squad and England-capped Pennell knows the scale of the task his Warriors face if they are to finish the season on a winning note.

He explained: “They’re very solid across the park regardless of who’s playing for them.

“I imagine they will treat the game as a springboard going into their European Champions Cup final match so it’s going to be a tough test for us.”

Warriors last met Saracens back at Twickenham in November where the champions conquered 48-18.

But Pennell believes a lot has changed since then, with Warriors having enjoyed wins against Sale Sharks, Newcastle Falcons, Gloucester Rugby, Harlequins and London Irish to secure their place in the Aviva Premiership for next season.

He added: “We’re quite a different side in terms of our confidence. We’ve had a lot more experience from then and a lot more success.

“We know that we’re good enough and capable of competing with and beating the top teams in the league so it’s a really exciting prospect and one we’re relishing.”
