Warriors Homeless Rugby win first International Homeless Rugby Cup

The Warriors Homeless Touch Rugby team took the honours in the first-ever Homeless Rugby CIC International Cup last month after beating Glasgow 6-5 in an exciting game at Caldy in Cheshire.

The contest, which took place on Sunday 29 May, was a showcase for the Homeless Rugby project and a celebration of the achievements of both teams’ progression so far – while there was also the serious business of a trophy at stake.

Glasgow started strongly and opened-up the scoring but tries from Joe Pain, Nathan Collins and Dom Mitchell Bennetto meant Warriors led 3-2 at the break.

In the second-half Glasgow again started strongly, retaking the lead before tries from Bennetto, Rich Oxenbury and Pain ensured that the cup would be coming home to Worcester.

Warriors Education Manager Dave Rogers said: “It’s always good to get the players away from Worcester, and it was a fantastic day up in Caldy.

“It was a great celebration of the impact that the project has had and it was fantastic for our guys to meet people from Glasgow who have experienced similar issues.

“It was a really close game and hopefully the start of an annual competition.”
