Baldwin – The hard work has already started

Luke Baldwin says the hard work has already begun after the Warriors players returned to pre-season training at the start of this week.

Baldwin and his teammates enjoyed a month off after a successful season which saw the side set a new Club record of four successive Aviva Premiership wins as they secured a tenth-placed finish.

And with 12 weeks to go before the 2016/17 season begins, the scrum-half believes the players need to make the most of the pre-season campaign to ensure they hit the ground running come September.

He said: “The boys have come back in good shape and the hard work is now underway to make sure we’re ready for the season ahead.

“The first week has been about getting our fitness testing and admin done so the backroom staff can look at the data and assess what we need to do as individuals to reach our peak at the right time.

“We were given an off-season programme to make sure we kept our fitness levels topped up and that has been a big help .People like Andy Short and Perry Humphreys are in remarkable shape.

“We’ll be aiming to drive the standards from within this season so every player will be looking to get the best out of themselves and their teammates.”

Baldwin enjoyed a well-earned rest from rugby over the summer as he flew out to Thailand. And he says the time away was the perfect way to unwind after a tough season.

He added: “I went out to Thailand with a friend and met-up with Matt Cox and former Warrior Joe Rees, which we had arranged.

“I felt like a real backpacker for a few weeks and was able to recharge the batteries, which was great.

“Bizarrely I also bumped into Carl Kirwan while I was over there even though I had no idea he was going over!”
