TEAM NEWS: Warriors name 29-man squad for Clermont test

Head Coach Carl Hogg has named a squad of 29 players for Warriors’ pre-season clash against Clermont Auvergne on Friday at the Jacques Lavedrine complex in Issoire (kick-off 7pm BST).

New signing Jackson Willison will pull on the Warriors jersey for the first time while fellow new boys Matti Williams and Alafoti Faosiliva could make their debuts from the bench.

Willison starts in the centres alongside Wynand Olivier with full-back Ben Howard and wingers Dean Hammond and Cooper Vuna occupying the back three.

Meanwhile, Ryan Lamb joins up with Luke Baldwin in the half-back combination.

Val Rapava Ruskin, Niall Annett and James Johnston occupy the front row with birthday boy Tevita Cavubati lining up next to Darren Barry in the second row.

GJ van Velze leads the side from the back row next to Carl Kirwan and Marco Mama.

Academy youngsters Will Butler, George de Cothi and Jamie Shillcock are also named among the replacements.

Head Coach Hogg said: “The last two weeks of altitude training have been tough for the boys but it’s been a great opportunity for the young and new players to get integrated and bond as a group.

“Facing the side who finished first in the Top 14 last season will provide us with a significant test.

“Clermont will be well prepared with their domestic competition starting next weekend but it’s a contest we’re looking forward to.”
