Warriors Rugby Supporters Club (WRSC) have generously donated £500 to the Warriors AASE programme.
On Wednesday 12 October, newly-appointed Chairman of the WRSC Bob Low, presented AASE Manager Ryan Watkins with a £500 cheque to assist with the running costs of the scheme.
The AASE programme is set up to provide 16 to 18-year-olds with the chance to excel in rugby as well the classroom and is run through a partnership between Worcester Warriors and Worcester Sixth Form College.
The programme is there to provide a transition from schoolboy rugby into professional rugby and the AASE League provides a real opportunity to any promising young talent.
The Warriors AASE side have had a fantastic start to the season, winning four of their first six fixtures which has seen them qualify for the AASE League play-offs.
WRSC Chairman Low said: “As the WRSC, we are committed to supporting all teams that sit under the Worcester Warriors Rugby Club umbrella and the AASE scheme provides the foundation of the player pathway from which we may find the next Chris Pennell.
“The money for this donation was raised at the recent supporters event at which we celebrated the achievements of Alex Grove, another player who was a product of the Academy.
“Our support will continue throughout the season and we wish all involved the very best.”
AASE Manager Watkins added: “We’re incredibly grateful for the donation from the supporters. The programme is starting to prove its worth with two current junior internationals and a couple of others pushing hard, and contributions like this will only improve the support we can offer these boys.
“As well as offering an opportunity to progress into professional rugby, a high number of students leave the programme to go on and get university scholarships while playing rugby at a high standard, and we as a Club are very keen to help all the boys on the programme to progress to the next stage of their lives.”
The Warriors AASE side are next in action at Saracens’ Oaklands College on Wednesday 9 November (kick-off 2pm).
