Wonderful weekend for Worcester rugby

It was a wonderful weekend for Worcester rugby as all three Warriors teams were in fine form to pick up wins while all of our international stars enjoyed wins with their respective countries.

Warriors finished their Anglo-Welsh Cup campaign in style as they picked up their first away win of the season at Cardiff Blues on Saturday with an eight-try 53-38 win.

Meanwhile, Warriors Under 18s finished their Northern Conference of the Premiership Rugby Under 18 Academy League with a 34-17 win at Newcastle Falcons to give themselves a fantastic chance of reaching Finals Day, which will be held at Sixways on Thursday 16 February.

Worcester Valkyries were also in good form on Sunday in the Women’s Senior Cup, thumping Darlington Mowden Park Sharks 36-5 at Sixways.

And on the international stage, Warriors’ Ben Te’o got England’s only but match-winning try against France in their RBS 6 Nations opener as they won 19-16 at Twickenham.

Following that match, Worcester Valkyries’ Laura Keates, Lydia Thompson and Rochelle Clark all started for England Women who defeated France 26-13.

And Academy youngster Will Butler was also on the scoresheet for England Under 20s who thumped France 59-17, while Joe Morris and Justin Clegg also featured, as England enjoyed a full house against the French across all formats.

Valkyries’ Welsh stars Dyddgu Hywel and Shona Powell-Hughes also helped Wales Women beat Italy 20-8 including a try for full-back Hywel, in what was a wonderful weekend for Worcester rugby and its international stars.

Attentions now switch to next weekend where Warriors face a massive home game in the Aviva Premiership against champions Saracens at Sixways, followed by England vs Wales on big screens around the ground.
