Cox wins back-to-back Player of the Month awards

Matt Cox has won back-to-back Player of the Month awards after being voted as the fans’ star player for January.

Cox has been in fine form for Warriors in both the European Challenge Cup and Anglo-Welsh Cup this season, finishing top of the carries stats in the European competition after making 100 in just six games.

The all-action back row picked up 31 per cent of the votes, pipping December signing Joe Taufete’e to the gong, despite the USA star shining in his three appearances in January which included a try against Harlequins.

Taufete’e came in second place with 25 per cent of the votes and was closely followed by fellow hooker Jack Singleton (20 per cent) who impressed in every match during January.

Dean Hammond, who was the hat-trick hero against Enisei-STM, was in fourth place with 13 per cent of the votes while Will Spencer, Ryan Mills, Biyi Alo and Val Rapava Ruskin also received nominations.

Cox said: “It’s a privilege to win this award, especially twice in a row, and I’d like to thank those who voted for me.
“It’s great to get recognition from the supporters and hopefully I’ve put my hand up for Premiership selection.

“There is huge competition for places across the squad but the important thing is now is that we all come together.

“We’ve got a big few months coming up and all of us players and coaches are pushing one another to be the best we can be.

“We’ve got some tough matches, especially at home, and we need everyone there to ensure Sixways is one of the most difficult places to travel in the league.”
