Annual Charity Matchday a big success for Acorns

Kind-hearted Warriors supporters helped raise over £10,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice at the Club’s annual Charity Matchday on New Year’s Day.

The money raised will help Acorns continue its vital work caring for life-limited and life-threatened children and young people and their families.

The Charity Matchday, taking place for the seventh season in support of Acorns, featured a host of activities as Warriors celebrated the start of 2016 by running out 24-17 winners against Harlequins.

Ticket holders who were guests of Acorns enjoyed lunch in the Charity Lounge and were treated to special pre-match Q&A session with former players Craig Gillies, Nick Baxter, Neil Lyman and Steve Lloyd.

Lou Arnold, Director of Supporter Engagement, said: “Acorns has developed a strong partnership with Warriors and the fans over the years and we were thrilled by the level of support we received once again on New Year’s Day.

“We have to raise nearly £10 million every year to provide the complex range of services, care and support families rely on, so the money raised at the annual Charity Matchday will help make a real difference to families across the region.”

Warriors took to the field wearing limited-edition shirts featuring the Acorns orange and Warriors blue.

The shirts were available to purchase from the Sixways Store, with profits from sales donated to Acorns.

As well as the replica shirts the Warriors match-worn shorts were sold off with fans bidding to buy their favourite player’s shirt.

Warriors Partnership Manager Leyton Williams added: “The Club are delighted with the way the Warriors fans continue to support the Acorns Charity Matchday.

“Our aim is to surpass the £25,000 season-long total which we raised last season and the amount raised at our Charity Matchday puts us on the way to achieving that goal.

“The money raised will be a big boost for the children and their families who rely so much on the care and support Acorns provides.”

The next fundraising event will be the Warriors Charity Golf Day, which takes places on Thursday 20 April at Astbury Golf Club. To book your place please email laura.napper@warriors.co.uk.
