O’Callaghan and Lewis scoop two trophies apiece at Warriors awards

Warriors duo Donncha O’Callaghan and Sam Lewis scooped two awards apiece at Tuesday night’s End of Season Awards event at Sixways Stadium.

With fans, sponsors, players and coaches in attendance, eight awards were handed out to recognise those who have excelled during the 2016/17 season.

British & Irish Lion O’Callaghan picked up the Fans’ Player of the Season and the Warriors Rugby Supporters Club (WRSC) Player of the Season awards after his 19 appearances this campaign, including seven Aviva Premiership games as captain in which his side picked up 17 points to secure their place in the top flight.

Meanwhile Lewis picked up the Players’ Player of the Season and Coaches’ Player of the Season awards after becoming a mainstay of the side in the second-half of the campaign.

The Welshman endured a lengthy injury lay-off from May 2015 before finally making his comeback in November 2016 – and has since made 16 appearances, impressing in Warriors’ recent upturn in form.

Academy star Jack Singleton was handed the Young Player of the Season award after a whirlwind campaign, having made his Club debut in Russia in October, his Premiership debut against Northampton Saints in November, before going on to make 19 appearances and earning a first-team deal for next season.

Fellow youngster Josh Adams picked up the WRSC’s Peter Watkins Young Player of the Year award after his rapid rise in the 2016/17 season.

Following his debut at Bath Rugby in September 2016, Adams has gone on to play 23 times, scoring 13 tries to become the Club’s top tryscorer this campaign, and like Singleton, he has been promoted to the first-team ahead of the 2017/18 season.

Tighthead prop Nick Schonert, who’s been monumental in the scrum yet again this year, was awarded the Supporters Club’s True Warrior gong.

Sam Betty, who leaves Warriors this summer after having made 120 appearances for the Club, picked up the Community Player of the Season award for his tremendous work with Acorns Children’s Hospice in a fitting send-off for the flanker.
