Simon Cross becomes Head Coach at Birmingham Moseley

Simon Cross will take over as Head Coach at Birmingham Moseley in the 2017/18 season, leading the club’s surge back to the Championship. He will also work with Warriors as Breakdown Coach.

Cross joined Warriors in 2013 as Defence Coach following a period as Head Coach of Edinburgh Accies.

During his three seasons at Accies, Cross oversaw promotion to the BT Premiership in 2011, guiding them to a fourth-place finish in 2013.

During his time coaching in Scotland, Cross also undertook the role of Defence Coach for Scotland Under 20s in the World Championships and worked with Gregor Townsend at Glasgow Warriors while Assistant Coach Matt Taylor was involved with the national team’s Six Nations and autumn international campaigns.

Prior to transitioning into coaching, the back row was captain of Edinburgh Rugby, having moved there from Wasps.

He retired from playing due to injury in 2010 at the age of 29. On the representative front he played for Scotland Under 19s, Under 21s and the Scottish national Sevens team in four tournaments and was extremely unlucky not to pick up a full cap having made it as far as the bench for their 2004 game against Wales.

Cross said: “I'm very excited about the season ahead. I get to combine a specialist breakdown role with Warriors whilst heading up a club steeped in history at Birmingham Moseley.

“It will be an exciting season on all fronts and I look forward to challenging players at both clubs with fulfilling their potential.”

Birmingham Moseley Director of Rugby Richard Protherough said: “We are delighted Simon has chosen to join Birmingham Moseley.

“Simon is an outstanding young Premiership coach with a passion for the game and developing rugby players.

“His experience at Worcester and Edinburgh will no doubt stand him in good stead for his time at Birmingham Moseley and I look forward to working with him.”
