Hill shortlisted for Breakthrough Player award

Ted Hill has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season and has today been shortlisted for the Premiership Rugby Cup Breakthrough Player award.

Launched in 2012, the Breakthrough Player Award celebrates and recognises players under the age of 23 who have stood out in the tournament, with previous winners including the likes of Jack Nowell, Jonny May, Tom Collins and Adam Radwan.

Using OPTA match statistics, a forward and back from each round, along with two players with outstanding overall competition statistics, will form a ten-man shortlist, which will be submitted to a fan vote.

The winner will be announced prior to the Premiership Rugby Cup final, with the lucky recipient also receiving a Promaster Tough watch courtesy of Premiership Rugby partner Citizen, while Gilbert, Official Ball and Rugby Clothing Partner of Premiership Rugby, will supply £1,000 worth of kit to a grassroots club of the winner’s choice.

Hill has been shortlisted for his performance in Round 2 alongside Sale Sharks’ Arron Reed. They join Josh Bayliss of Bath Rugby and Northampton Saints’ James Grayson, who were shortlisted after Round 1.

Hill showed just why Eddie Jones called him into England’s training squad last month with a fine display in Warriors’ victory away at Leicester Tigers.

Wearing the number six shirt Hill was the only forward to both score and assist a try at the weekend, while his 19 tackles could only be bettered by Gloucester’s Aaron Hinkley (21). Hill also made eight carries and two breaks, gaining 39 metres in the process.
