Hill wins England cap in Japan win

Ted Hill became the latest Warriors international when he came on as a replacement for the last six minutes of England’s 35-15 victory over Japan in Saturday’s Quilter International at Twickenham.

Hill, 19, was included in the matchday squad having made just three Gallagher Premiership appearances – and only one start – for Warriors.

But his impressive displays for England in the World Rugby Under-20 Championships last summer and for Warriors as a replacement in the Premiership win at Leicester Tigers in September and in the starting XV in the European Challenge Cup win over Stade Francais in Paris thrust Hill into England’s senior squad for their training camp in Portugal last month.

England Head Coach Eddie Jones called up Hill – who is still a Three Pears Warriors Academy player – for training at Pennyhill Park earlier this week and named him on the bench for the third of the four Autumn Internationals.

Hill had to wait patiently for his opportunity as Japan led 15-10 at half-time but he was eventually used as a substitute for  Charlie Ewels in the 74th minute which started celebrations on the Warriors’ team coach on the journey home from Bath and at Malvern’s Spring Lane ground.

Hill played his formative rugby at Malvern, where his father Vince is a former captain, and he is a regular visitor to the club as well as being coach of their Colts team.

Hill is the 37th player to win a full international cap while with Warriors but the first from Malvern player to achieve the distinction.

Hill was one of three Warriors players on international duty in Europe on Saturday.

Winger Josh Adams was an unused replacement in Cardiff where Wales trounced Tonga 74-24.

Hooker Joe Taufete’e won his 18th cap for USA in their 31-5 victory over Romania in Bucharest.

Taufete’e started the match and was replaced midway through the second half by which time the Eagles were 19-5 ahead.

USA complete their autumn  programme against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium next Saturday with Taufete’e needing two more tries to equal former Ireland hooker Keith Wood’s world record of most tries -15 – by a front row forward in internationals.
