Matt Cox – Players share fans’ frustration

Warriors back row forward Matt Cox admitted that the players shared the frustration of their supporters after Sunday’s 17-6 at Gallagher Premiership bottom club Newcastle Falcons.

Cox came on as a replacement midway through the second half after Marco Mama suffered a head injury and although he produced a typical hard-working and committed performance, Cox was unable to inspire Warriors to their second away league win of the season.

Warriors players and supporters made the 500-mile round trip without a bonus point as consolation from a frustrating afternoon in the rain.

“A lot of it was down to our errors so there a lot of things that we can correct ourselves,” Cox said.

“The lads were looking forward to this game but it didn’t go to our plan.

“It’s frustrating. We want to be looking up the table and chasing things and going for our ambitions. This club has higher expectations and ambitions and we want to be aiming for them, not dealing  with 80 minutes when things don’t go our way. We will go back review what we have done and try to put it right.

“It was a frustrating afternoon and it’s a massive shame for the fans who have travelled up here to support us. It would have been great to send those people back with a win.

“We want to give them something to be happy and cheerful about. When we prep for a game they are there at the back of your mind as one of the drivers.

“It’s not just about the 15 players and the squad that you train with. It’s about the whole club, that’s why the boys put a lot of effort in.”

Warriors will be back in Gallagher Premiership action on Saturday March 9 when league leaders Exeter Chiefs are the visitors to Sixways (kick-off 3.00pm).
