Weir in running for Gilbert Golden Boot

Warriors’ fly-half Duncan Weir is in the running to be crowned the leading marksman in this season’s Gallagher Premiership.

The top place kicker in the Premiership wins the Gilbert Golden Boot and Weir is currently in second place just eight points behind leader George Ford, the Leicester Tigers and England fly-half, with just two rounds of matches to go.

Scotland international Weir joined Warriors from Edinburgh last summer and has had an outstanding first season at Sixways.

Weir’s haul of 188 points includes five tries, the latest in Sunday’s win over Gloucester at Sixways and he is now only three points behind Ford in this season’s Premiership points-scorers table.

Weir has kicked 163 points – 35 conversions and 31 penalties – and boasts a success rate of 83.54 per cent, the seventh best in the country. Tane Takulua of Newcastle Falcons heads that table with a 92 per cent success rate.

Weir has landed his last six kicks in the Premiership with only Northampton Saints pair Dan Biggar (last eight) and Jamie Grayson (last seven) boasting a longer successful streak.
