Ollie Lawrence shortlisted for Premiership Rugby Cup Breakthrough Player Award

Ollie Lawrence has been shortlisted for this season’s Premiership Rugby Cup Breakthrough Player Award.

Lawrence was shortlisted after an impressive showing on his seasonal debut at Bath last Saturday where he scored the second of Warriors’ four tries and was one of just three backs in the second round of the competition to make more than ten tackles and more than ten carries.

The centrebbeat five defenders from his 12 carries, the second-most of any centre at the weekend, and made the third most metres for a player in his position.

Lawrence, 20, has been shortlisted for the national award along with Saracens flanker Sean Reffell.

Launched in 2012, the Breakthrough Player Award celebrates and recognises under-23 players who have stood out in the tournament, with previous winners including the likes of Jack Nowell and Jonny May. Last season’s gong was taken home by James Grayson as he led Northampton Saints to the title.

Using OPTA match statistics, a forward and back from each round, along with two players with outstanding overall competition statistics, will form a ten-man shortlist, which will be submitted to a fan vote.
