Fidow to start for Samoa against World Cup hosts

Warriors wing Ed Fidow will again start for Samoa in their Rugby World Cup Pool A match against hosts Japan in Toyota on Saturday.

Fidow was cleared to play in the match by a competition disciplinary panel after he was sent off having received two yellow cards in the defeat by Scotland on Monday.

The panel decided that sending off was sufficient punishment for Fidow as the first yellow card was for a technical offence and the second was for a minor act of foul play which would not have warranted a yellow card had Fidow not impeded Sean Maitland in the act of scoring. Scotland were awarded two penalty tries as a consequence of Fidow’s infringements.

Fidow has scored ten tries in as many matches in a productive start to his international career including two on his World Cup debut in last week’s victory over Russia.

He will join Warriors after the World Cup having signed from French Pro-D2 club Provence earlier this year.

Samoa coach Steve Jackson has made six changes to his starting XV for the Japan match.
