Kitcheners proud to be Warriors team-mates

Warriors lock Andrew Kitchener says it will be a proud moment for his family and friends when he packs down alongside his elder brother Graham in Friday’s Premiership Rugby Cup match against Exeter at Sixways (kick-off 7.45pm).

The brothers played against each other in the same competition last November when Graham was with Leicester Tigers and Andrew finished on the winning side at Welford Road.

The Kitcheners are now team-mates following Graham’s decision to return to Warriors after eight years with Leicester and they will form a new second row pairing against Exeter.

“When I started out first time at Worcester I knew it could be an option because we are both in the same profession,” Andrew said.

“But there’s a big age gap – almost seven years difference. I grew up watching a lot of Graham’s games but I never thought we should share the field firstly last year in the cup but now, probably the better deal, actually playing alongside him in the same team.

“It’s a nice moment and one I didn’t necessarily think would happen. It’s something special and we are going to make the most of it.

“I was a bit shocked when I heard that we would be playing together but it will be really proud moment for friends and family to line up alongside Graham for the first time.

“It will be a good moment for us, growing up together and finally getting the opportunity to play together is a massive achievement. Once the game starts I’m sure we’ll be focused on individual performances and we will be trying to do our best for the team.”
