Young Warriors AASE team outgunned in Yorkshire

Warriors AASE team, Stourport High School, suffered a disappointing 72-14 in their latest match at Bishop Burton College, their Yorkshire Carnegie counterparts.

Stourport were without a number of key player due to injury and sent a side comprised mostly of Under-17s to East Yorkshire.

Bishop Burton needed to win by 30 points to secure a place in the Cup play offs and went their task in ruthless fashion.

They established an early lead and Stourport found it difficult to get a toehold in the match although Dom Cripps crossed for a first half try when sliced through the home defence from a scrum and outstripped the cover defence. Jonty Monk added the conversion.

Bishop Burton built on their 32-7 interval lead with a dominant second half display but Stourport had the consolation of rounding off the scoring when Jack Lewis picked up at the base of the scrum and put  Tom Crane away with an excellent timed pass with Monk again converting.

Although the result was disappointing, Stourport finished a place higher in the North Division of the AASE League than they did last season.

They will now face Moulton College, who they beat in this season’s opener, and Bishop Burton in the Plate competition.

Dates and venues will be confirmed next week.
