Ross excited for new season of Premiership Under-18s Academy League

Gordon Ross is looking for Warriors Under-18s to build on their experience of last year after the fixtures for the new league season were released.

Although they finished bottom of the Northern Conference of the Premiership Under-18s Academy League last term, a young Warriors squad were competitive in many of their outings.

With those players having that experience under their belt, Academy Backs Transition Coach Ross is hoping for an improvement this year.

“We are hoping to be very competitive throughout the league campaign,” said the former Scotland fly-half.

“With a number of the players having experience of the competition last season the squad is excited about the challenges ahead and desperate to have a successful season.

“In the forwards, hopefully Jack Forsythe can build on his outstanding performances last season and along with a powerful front row, will provide a good platform for the back line.

“Half-backs Ollie Wynn, who represented Warriors at the Premiership 7s, and Fin Smith, who was recently selected for the England Under-18s squad, can hopefully carry their excellent early-season form into the league fixtures.”

Warriors Under-18s will play in the Northern Conference and kick off the new Premiership Academy League campaign with a trip to Sale Sharks on Sunday December 15 (kick-off 2.30pm) before having a bye week in Round Two.

Ross’s team will then host Wasps at Sixways on Saturday December 28 (kick-off 12.00pm), before a trip to Northampton Saints on Saturday January 11 (kick-off 2.00pm).

Newcastle Falcons travel to Sixways a week later (kick-off 2.00pm), with Warriors rounding off the pool stage with an away match at Leicester Tigers on Saturday January 25 (kick-off 12.00pm), and a home clash with Yorkshire Carnegie on Saturday February 8 (kick-off 2.00pm).

The league’s Finals Day, in which the top three teams in each conference face off, will take place on Sunday February 16.
