Watkins predicts bright future for AASE prospects

Warriors AASE Manager Ryan Watkins has predicted that his side will be stronger next season after a tough campaign this term.

Stourport High School – Warriors’ AASE team – were beaten 44-19 by their Wasps counterparts City of Oxford College in their final match of the season in the AASE League Plate play-offs at Shaftesbury Park in Bristol on Tuesday

Stourport again showed promise and acquitted themselves well and were only three points down at the break before City of Oxford pulled clear in the second half.

“Despite the disappointing result to end the season, the boys have improved a lot over the past few months,” Watkins said.

“The majority of the squad have been under-17s playing in an Under-18 league so it was always going to be a tough year.

“But I’m confident we will be much stronger next year. There is still a lot of work to do as we have lads hopefully playing in the Academy League and going onto representative squads.

“I would especially like to mention Jack Lewis who has been an outstanding captain for us this year and has recently been called up to the Wales Under-19 training squad.”

Wing Ben Edwards scored two tries for Stourport in the first half against City of Oxford College with Lewis crossing after the break and Jai Crippin landing two conversions.
