Ollie Lawrence makes England debut & becomes Six Nations champion

Ollie Lawrence became Warriors’ sixth England when he won his first cap as a replacement in the  34-5 victory over Italy at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome and helped to secure the 2020 Guinness Six Nations title.

Lawrence came on as a 68th minute replacement for Jonathan Joseph and was busy and industrious as England eased to a bonus point win against the tenacious Italians.

The centre followed Pat Sanderson, Matt Mullan, Chris Pennell, Ben Te’o and Ted Hill in winning an England cap while with Warriors and the club’s 41st international in all.

England had to wait three hours before they were crowned champions as France’s 35-27 win over Ireland in Paris was not enough for them to overhaul England’s superior points difference. Ireland would have taken the title had they won with a try bonus point or by a margin of seven or more points at the Stade de France.

Having completed the interrupted Six Nations England will now prepare for the new Autumn Nations Cup with matches against Georgia (November 14) and Ireland (November 21) at Twickenham and an away match against Wales on November 28.
