Club statement | Warriors support Harlequins cancellation decision

Worcester Warriors support the decision to cancel Friday’s Gallagher Premiership match against Harlequins at Sixways after a number of Harlequins players were required to isolate under COVID-19 track-and-trace protocols.

Although we would always prefer the outcome of matches to be decided on the pitch, the safety of players, officials and staff in these worrying times is the sole consideration when making these decisions.

We wish all those affected at Harlequins a full and speedy recovery and thank Harlequins and Premiership Rugby Limited for the professional and efficient manner this matter has been dealt with.

Harlequins said in a statement: “Following the Boxing Day fixture versus Bristol Bears, the club returned one positive test from this week’s round of PCR testing. Following a forensic contact tracing process of the club’s game last weekend and training so far this week, a further six players have been ruled out of selection, preventing the club from fielding a full front row for the match against Worcester.

“In accordance with PHE guidelines, the seven players will now go into a ten-day isolation period.

“Harlequins has taken a further measure of standing players down from training for a week to contain any further transmission and to minimise the use and possible contamination of the training facility, such is the need to protect the health and wellbeing of players and staff.”

A Premiership Rugby panel will now be convened to determine the allocation of points.

Unfortunately this means that tickets for this match are no longer valid. Please do not attempt to attend Sixways on Friday for any reason.

  • Reimbursement Plans for the 2020/21 SeasonFor matches that are either cancelled or played behind closed doors during the 2020/21 Season, we will be offering Season Ticket holders the same reimbursement options as available during the 2019/20 season. These were:  support the club, claim an on-account balance or to claim a pro-rata refund.  The first reimbursement process will begin after the first block of games (November 21-Jnuary 8) have been completed.

Thank you for your continued support of Warriors and we hope to be able to welcome you back to Sixways again in the New Year.
