There was disappointment for Warriors centre Ollie Lawrence after the bonus of making an unexpected start for England ended with a 32-18 defeat at the hands of Ireland in Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
Lawrence had been named as a replacement for the match but he was promoted to the starting XV after full-back Max Malins withdrew because of a leg injury.
It meant a fourth start and sixth international cap for Lawrence but there was little opportunity for him to impress as England suffered their third defeat in a tame defence of their Six Nations crown.
Ireland were 26-6 up at one stage before England rallied with tries from Ben Youngs and Jonny May after Ireland centre Bundee Aki had been sent off for a tackle that made contact with Billy Vunipola’s head.
