LYDIA THOMPSON STARTS FOR RED ROSES

Lydia Thompson is now closing in on her 50th Red Roses cap having been named in England’s starting line-up for this Saturday’s Women’s Six Nations opener against Scotland at Castle Park (kick-off 3pm, live on BBC iPlayer).

Thompson, who featured in Warriors Women’s bonus-point victory over Bristol Bears Women on Sunday, gets the nod on the wing and adds valuable experience to the Red Roses’ backline.

Named in World Rugby’s Team of the Decade, Thompson has recently returned from a lengthy injury lay-off and will undoubtedly be itching to pull on the England jersey again.

“We’ve had a high quality week preparing in Doncaster and we are as ready as we can possibly be at this point to play,” said England Women Head Coach Simon Middleton.

“Games against Scotland are always special occasions and this one will be no different.

“We’re delighted our games are being broadcast across the BBC and are aiming to put on a show.”
