JT welcomes return of the ‘soul in the game’

Warriors Head Coach Jonathan Thomas has welcomed the return of the “soul in the game” with supporters back at Sixways for the first time in almost six months.

Following the easing of lockdown restrictions, Warriors were permitted to admit a crowd of 3,100 for Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership match against Leicester Tigers, only the third time since March 2020 that spectators had been allowed into Sixways for Warriors match.

“I said to the players before the match that the game was going to be about physicality and fronting up,” Thomas said.

“We knew that would have to go to a dark place that we have not been to all season because we knew it was going to be a tough challenge.

“But we were at home, it’s our house and we have family and friends watching and they are the ones that usually bring that extra one per cent that you need.

“It was fantastic to see supporters back and it definitely felt like more than 25 per cent capacity.

“The soul in the game is supporters and not having them has been tough so it has been good having them back in.”

Warriors will again be permitted a restricted capacity crowd for the final Gallagher Premiership match of the season, a local derby against Gloucester Rugby on Saturday June 12 (kick-off 3.00pm).
