Gloucester match replaced by end-of-season party

Warriors’ final Gallagher Premiership match of the season against Gloucester Rugby at Sixways on Saturday has been cancelled after Gloucester returned a further positive test for COVID-19 forcing a number of their squad to isolate.

Although there will not be a match for supporters and club partners to watch on Saturday they will still have the chance to get together at the end of the 2020/21 season.

“While we are disappointed that the Gloucester match has been cancelled we fully understand the reasons and we wish everyone at Kingsholm a full recovery,” said Warriors’ Managing Director Peter Kelly.

“As this was a match where we would have been allowed a restricted attendance of 3,100, it is doubly disappointing but we still want to reward our supporters for their loyalty over what has been an extremely challenging year.

“There was always going to be a party atmosphere for this match and the opportunity for the club and supporters to thank all players for their fantastic service and commitment.

“We still intend to give players a proper end-of-season send-off and we are working on putting on entertainment, food and drink for what will be a party in a safe and socially distanced environment.”

Last week Gloucester returned a number of positive Covid-19 tests and had a large number of their squad isolating which led to the cancellation of their scheduled match at home to Bath Rugby.

Yesterday there was an additional positive result in their Covid-19 testing, which led to several new players going into isolation this week and club writing to Premiership Rugby to confirm they are unable to field a matchday 23 for this weekend.

A Premiership Rugby panel will now be convened to determine the allocation of points and a further announcement will be made in due course.
