Warriors’ very own Alex Matthews and her Team GB sevens teammates put in a complete display to defeat USA 21-12 and book their place in the semi-finals.
Matthews, who joined Warriors Women last year, was colossal in defence and was a calming influence with ball in hand to set the platform for the likes of Jasmine Joyce and Abbie Brown to do their stuff.
They now face France in the last four of the competition, while Fiji meet New Zealand in the other semi-final as the prospect of a medal looms large.
Joyce, a former Warrior, got GB off to a superb start as she crossed in the opening minute and Brown doubled their advantage heading into the break. Joyce then added a third try for GB to make it 21-0, before USA responded.
GB had beaten Kenya 31-0 to make it into the quarter-finals earlier in the day, with Matthews and co really building up a head of steam going into tomorrow’s showdown.
