USA international joins Warriors Women

USA second-row Alycia Washington has joined Warriors Women ahead of the 2021/22 Allianz Premier 15s season as more international talent jets into Sixways.

The dynamic forward, 30, has represented the Eagles 22 times, featuring at the 2017 Rugby World Cup where she helped them to a fourth-place finish – their highest since 1991.

Washington, who hails from Connecticut, is delighted to have penned terms with the Premier 15s club, adding: “I am honoured and delighted to have joined Worcester Warriors and I’m excited to have the opportunity to play in the Allianz Premier 15s, a competition which is really going from strength-to-strength.

“Warriors have a reputation of excellence both on and off the field and I’m excited to contribute and learn from my new teammates and staff.”

Earning her first international cap against the Red Roses in 2015, Washington has been at the centre of women’s rugby in the States for the past decade, playing in three Super Series against the likes of France, New Zealand, England and Canada.

Washington, who follows Japan fly-half Minori Yamamoto in committing to Warriors, won the Women’s Premier League Championship with New York Rugby in 2017 and will undoubtedly be itching to help her new club build on their impressive finish to last season.

A passionate advocate of women’s rugby, Washington recently joined forces with World Rugby to raise the profile of the women’s game through a digital campaign as well as forming the XV  Foundation in America.

“We are really excited to have Alycia join us,” said Warriors Women Director of Rugby Jo Yapp.

“She brings great physicality and is a dynamic ball carrier. We are so pleased to have her join the Warriors family.”
