Warriors Women strengthen forward line

Wales international Carys Phillips and energetic second-row Cara Brincat are the latest players to commit their future to Warriors Women in the run up to the new Allianz Premier 15s campaign.

The pair bring firepower to a forward line, which welcomed USA second-row Alycia Washington to its ranks this week.

Warriors Women Forwards Coach Liza Burgess said: “I’m excited to see Cara grow and develop even more this year – she’s a very talented athlete with an exceptional work rate and great skillset.

“Carys is a highly respected member of the squad, who brings a wealth of experience coupled with great technical ability and physicality.”

Featuring in two World Cups and seven Six Nations, Phillips’ stock continues to rise in the blue and gold of Worcester.

Phillips led Warriors on a number of occasions last term in the absence of Club Captain Lyndsay O’Donnell, with the hooker full of excitement ahead of her side’s opener at Sale Sharks on Saturday 4 September.

“I’m chuffed to have re-signed with Warriors and I can’t wait to continue learning and driving standards both on and off the field,” said Phillips, who works for The Warriors Community Foundation.

“I love being part of this team and I’m really looking forward to getting this season started.”

Former England Under-20 international Brincat was significant presence in Warriors’ pack last season, her display at the breakdown at home to Gloucester-Hartpury earlier this year a particular highlight.

Entering her fifth campaign at Sixways, the PE Teacher from Berkshire is thrilled to have extended her stay with Jo Yapp’s side.

“The atmosphere and culture of the team is better than ever,” Brincat added.

“I’m excited about the potential of this team and what we can achieve going into the new season.”
