Thomas and Varley re-sign with Warriors Women

Another day and another two re-signings for Warriors Women as Wales prop Caryl Thomas and centre Meg Varley extend their stay at Sixways.

Thomas, who has racked up more than 50 caps for her country joined Warriors a few games into last season, while Varley is set to embark on her fifth campaign for Jo Yapp’s side.

Caryl is a seasoned international, who brings a great deal of experience to our squad, especially in the front-row,” said Backs and Attack Coach Sian Moore.

“She’s as driven as ever to improve and perform, and she’ll be one to keep an eye on this season.

“Meg is a player who not only enjoys but excels in the physical side of the game. She’s impressively consistent with her performances and her Premier 15s experience massively outweighs her age.”

Aggressive front-row Thomas made her Warriors debut against Sale in November 2020 and went on to make 12 appearances in the Premier 15s as well as earning call-ups to play in each of Wales’ Six Nations fixtures earlier this year.

A career which has spanned three World Cups and three Six Nations, Thomas is looking forward to lacing up her boots when the season gets underway.

She said: “I’m really pleased to have re-signed with Worcester Warriors as it’s a great club with great people. It’s a big year and I’m excited for us to keep building on last year’s performances.”

Indeed, it was last year’s performances, particularly at the back end of the campaign, which gave Warriors much to be proud of. Thomas was a significant cog in her side’s run of 12 points from a possible 15 in spring of this year as was Varley, whose explosive line breaks have dazzled many a TikTok viewer.

Varley, 22, made her 50th Warriors appearance at home to Harlequins in December 2020 and has certainly taken her game to new heights in recent years.

A product of Worcester Juniors, Varley went on to represent England Under-20s alongside a number of players who have worn the Warriors colours.

“I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to re-sign with Warriors,” added Varley.

“I’m looking forward to the Allianz Premier 15s starting again, and I’m excited to get back out there with the team and further challenge myself both on and off the pitch.”
