Montgomery comes out top in Warriors tussle

Caleb Montgomery came out on top in a tussle with his Warriors team-mate Joe Richardson as Cornish Pirates beat Coventry 40-5 in Saturday’s RFU Championship match at the Mennaye Field.

Back-row forward Montgomery is on loan at Pirates and came on as replacement early in the second half to help them secure a bonus point win.

Hooker Richardson came off Coventry’s bench 12 minutes from time but by that time Pirates were well on course for victory.

Montgomery and Richardson were among eight Warriors players in loan action in the Championship or National Two North on Saturday.

Morgan Monks started at number eight for Ampthill against Doncaster Knights at Dillingham Park but finished on the losing side as the Yorkshire club snatched a 20-18 win with a last minute try.

Lock James Scott came on as a replacement midway through the second half for Hartpury who went down 42-19 to Bedford Blues at the Alpas Arena.

Three Pears Warriors Academy pair Tobi Wilson and Finn Theobald-Thomas helped Stourbridge maintain their unbeaten record in National Two North with a thrilling 30-20 win at Wharfedale.

Wilson started at full-back and Theobald-Thomas at hooker for Stourbridge who clinched victory with two late unconverted tries.

Loosehead prop Ben Murphy and flanker Jack Forsythe both started for Luctonians who were beaten 38-7 by Sedgley Park, the National Two North leaders.
