Sixways gears up for England vs USA

England Women’s Test match against USA at Sixways Stadium is edging closer, with just 20 days to go until the big day.

The Red Roses, who kicked-off their autumn campaign with a resounding 43-12 victory over New Zealand at the weekend, head to the home of Worcester Warriors on Sunday 21 November.

Simon Middleton’s side scored seven tries to claim a record triumph against the world champions to retain their number one ranking in the world in front of a capacity crowd at Exeter’s Sandy Park.

Second-row Abbie Ward scored twice, with full-back Ellie Kildunne, Lark Davies, Holly Aitchison and Abby Dow also crossing the whitewash to reaffirm the hosts’ dominance.

Warriors wing Lydia Thompson started the game, while Matthews, who represented Team GB Sevens in Tokyo during the summer, came on for the last 20 minutes.

Sian Moore, Warriors Women Attack and Backs Coach said: “I thought some of Lydia’s defensive efforts halted New Zealand’s attacking momentum and she also did fantastically well with ball in hand in very little space.

“It’s great to see her back on the international stage. Alex brought good intensity off the bench when she came on and I thought that she had a really balanced performance.”

England head to Franklin’s Gardens for a rematch with New Zealand on Sunday 7 November, before taking on Canada at The Stoop and then finally the USA at Sixways Stadium.
