First lorry transporting humanitarian aid to Ukraine leaves Sixways

The first lorryload of humanitarian aid for refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine has left Sixways.

The essential items filled 28 pallets which were packed into the lorry sent from a haulage company in Szczecin in Poland. A similar number of pallets have already been packed and will form part of a second transportation from Sixways later this week by the Caritas Internationalis charity.

The items, which were donated in just five days at Sixways last week, will be driven through the humanitarian corridor to refugees in Poland and Ukraine.

The response to the request for donations was so overwhelming that Warriors had to pause them for four days to allow a team of volunteers to sort and package the mountain of items ahead so that they were ready for transportation and distribution.

Warriors are again accepting donations of essential items which can be left in the Portcullis Bar under the East Stand at Sixways.

To aid the collection process and to avoid any wastage only items on the list of essentials should be donated. Please note that we cannot accept items of clothing unless they are specifically listed below.

  • Blankets
  • Sleeping bags and mats
  • Thermos flasks
  • Pillows
